Robert Morris was one of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence. While many in America today do not believe the United States was founded on Christian values, a majority of the signers of the Declaration were Christian, including Robert.
Robert Morris's claim to fame was that he almost single handedly financed the entire Revolutionary war. From a very early age he grasped mathematics and was dismissed from school early to be sent to a counting room. 1
Morris was born in Liverpool, England to a wealthy businessman. "On the formation of the new United States government he was offered, but declined, an appointment as Secretary of the Treasury; he instead urged the appointment of Alexander Hamilton."2 He married "Miss Mary" a sister to Bishop White, whose church Morris attended when he wasn't away on business for the country.
He eventually became a senator and served Pennsylvania for many years. For much more information, check out Sabin Americana, a great resource on searching early American history.
